Slide projection, 36 slides, dimensions variable, New York, 2004
The slide projection Left Behind shows sequences of people walking through the foyer and hallways of a corporate office building as part of their daily routines and working lives. Though seemingly unconnected, the title of the piece provides socio-historical context: Left Behind refers to the Fundamentalist Christian bestselling novels of the same name as well as to the recently passed “No Child Left Behind Act” by the US government, a federally-underfunded bill mandating standardized testing in high schools that allowed military recruiters access to high school student data.
